About 3 days back, I got an email from Maritza Campos, creator of CRFH and a good friend to invite me to collaborate with her on a guest strip for PVP. Said strip was published by Scott today, and I’m fearing for the life of my server! The visit count is massive! It’s barely 7 am here, and this site has received more visits than every previous day. We’re getting visitors from all over the world and I’m happy as hell. -This is why I’m writing this in english.
To those of you are visiting here for the first time, welcome. I’m sorry the entire site is in spanish, I know you can`t read it right now, but I’m taking steps to remedy that very soon. For the moment, you can see the pretty pictures at the links above, and I hope you’ll come back soon, when I have an english version.
I should say, that back in 2008 when I first played with the idea of doing a webcomic, after nearly 20 years of working on the ‘serious’ side of the comicbook business, I became a fan first of the podcast ‘webcomics weekly’, Where Señores Kurtz, Guigar, Kellet and Straub explained the ins and outs of the webcomic business model. It was eye-opening to say the least. I’ve put to the test most of the concepts, ideas and experiences they explained on that podcast (and later the book).
Funnily enough I was first a fan of the podcast, and later became a fan of their strips. Specially PVP, to my tastes the better drawn.
I’m doubly grateful to Scott first for the inspiration to start doing webcomics, then to Maritza for proving that even from a country like Mexico, it is possible to make a living doing comics.
This is such a rush!
I hope you like the strip.

I had not heard of you before your guest strip on PvP. You’ve got a great style and I really wish I spoke spanish so I could enjoy your site. Can’t wait to see an english translation.
Thanks, Elijah. It was already planned to do the comic in both languages. I hope it doesn’t take longer than a couple of weeks.
¡Felicidades!
Despite living in Arizona most of my life, my Spanish is still rudimentary but damn! You are one talented dude! Seriously, your work is truly breathtaking…I’ve just spent the better part of an hour poking around…keep it up bro!
Thanks, Derek. I’m glad you liked it. I hope you’ll visit often when I have the english version.
Angel, muchas gracias también. Se siente como si fuera mi cumpleaños. Y ahora no sean gachos, y vayan a felicitar a Maritza también. Esto no sale si no es por ella: http://www.doomies.com/
Honor a quien honor merece!! FELICIDADES por el muy merecido reconocimiento!!
Your artwork is great! Sadly I do not speak spanish, so I will have to wait for the translated strips(or spend some time with the Google translation page open beside your site) Bookmarked along with the other webcomics I read every morning.
Thanks, Brian. Hopefully it won’t be long.
This makes me wonder something… I have a feeling that most of my REGULAR spanish-speaking readers also speak english. Could any of you confirm this? -I know you wouldn’t be able to deny it if you can’t understand the question, but if you DO, maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to forego the two-language thing, and start doing this whole site in english.
It would save me a LOT of work.
Any opinions on this?
Just wanted to say that I’m another visitor from PVP and I want you to know that I love your art style. Like the others, I’ve got a pretty basic understanding of Spanish, (speak it better than I read it) and I can’t wait till I can put the words with the outstanding pictures.
Just wanted to let you know that I love your art and am looking forward to the english version. Keep it up!
Beautiful work, wishing my spanish was better, looking forward to the translated version. Well Done
Y tercero, about your question: indeed, I think that in Mexico most of the comic fans need to know some english, because we like a lot of U.S. characters and it isn’t a bad idea at all to do the whole site in english. It wouldn’t be fair for ALL your fans, though. Because not everybody speak english… I think the better way is the two-language version and you’ll just need someone helping you… mora than one would apply for that…
Saludos / grettings…
I’m suscribed to PVPs RSS feed, so this morning I read it and noticed how awesome the art looked (even though I really love the usual style, hehe). I then read the fact that it was a guestcomic, and saw the very familiar names Bachan and Maritza there… I could not believe it. I’m thrilled to see their work featured on such an important site. Congratulations to both of you!!! And, to be frank, congratulations to Scott too, on having such great guest strips!
Love the look of your comic! I could read it pretty well due to 4 years of high school Spanish back in the 80s. I will see how much I can continue to read. Your PVP strip was fantastic! I’m going to plug you shortly on my podcast page which won’t give you the hits that PVP does, but you may get one or two! ¡Buena suerte!
)
I loved the guest strip! Absolutely beautiful artwork and a great laugh!
Am I the only one who had a bit of cognitive dissonance with the statement:
“… Where mrs. Kurtz, Guigar, Kellet and Straub explained the ins …”
I know that in Spanish that Senor is pluralized as Senores, and abbreviated as Srs. Unfortunately, the same process produces mrs. in English which is the abreviation for a married woman. I was initially confused that this was a gender-bender comment, until I realized the Spanish origin of the abbreviation…
Thanks for the comments, and the good wishes. Anonymous: You’re right, that was a mistake on my part. Actually, now that I think about it, I have no idea on how to pluralize “Mr” in english. I will probably need some help with the english version of this thing.
There. Fixed the best way I know how.
Heh.
Wow, love the artwork. I try to imagine your version of Kung Fu Panda. I am also regretting I only took two years of spanish. but I am subscribing so please let me know when the english version of your comics are ready!
Amazing artwork ! I (like many above) wish I could read spanish to enjoy your comic ! If your drawing reflects your talents I am sure I would enjoy your writing
-Cheers from Canada
I can help you if you want, bro
Of course, some of the joke adaptation has to be tightly supervised, but you know, I have a bit of experience with that
Congregations, master Bachan! Certainly was a matter of time –mostly, just to get the chance– that the world shall to realize about your talent. About your question, I’m one of your regular readers whose maternal language is Spanish, but I fluent in English as well, at least when I wrote. Chance Producciones Balazo a bilingual site certainly will be a good idea. From now and ever, this is a global world (sorry for the reiteration :p) and English is the vehicle to reach world wide fame (and more much money!) Should be better to use English as an international language before Mandarin replace it, since I had ear that learn Mandarin it’s so complicate as Chinese does.
I´ll be back if and when this is translated
Kinda feels ashamed i didnt pay more attention in my spanish lessons (im from Denmark and Spanish would have been my 4´th language so i decided i would rather be lazy than learn spanish!! ) Could you maybe add a news letter when you get this ready for us non-hispanic audiences?? (is that even a word??)
Hola Bachan, muchas felicidades por la colaboración. Esta padrísima. Tu y Maritza Son todas unas celebridades del webcómic Nacional.
Another fan of Mr. Kurtz and his comic. I was blown away by your guest comic – I really think it is the best guest strip of the week! I wish I could understand Spanish, but I think you’re a fantastic story teller just through your illustrations. I spent a good while ‘reading’ your comic and making translations up. Keep up the great work!
Dear Bach, I somehow got puzzled and sad when you wrote up there “even from a country like Mexico”.
What do you mean with that?
I know we’re really f***ed up — as Gandul demonstrated in his strip today, but won’t you please elaborate?
Congrats on becoming a reg’lar web comic celebrity dude.
Send ya hugs.
Congratulations, Bachan, your participation at PVP is stunning as always, but, with a great succes comes a great responsability, ( I don’t remember where I read that) and I think you should keep on working in both languages, at least until everybody know what’s going on, cause a lot of spanish-speaking readers have been following you for a long long time, I suggest you to start by translating this post, so they can congratulate you and share their point of view
Dogmatix!!
*hugs rulas’s avatar*
Fantastic work, great guest strip. Really inspiring.
Love your work down here in New Zealand.
G.
Wow! This is mind-blowing… New Zealand, Denmark, Sweden, Canada…? Wow. Now I feel international! Heh.
Yep. In english.
SOON.
Thank you!
Thanks Nicole!, in México we call him Idefix.
Dear Bachan, I want to remind you that the offer I made almost in the begining of producciones Balazo to help with the translation still stands.
on the other hand. congratulations!!!!!!
Wow!
Tu sabras.
Felicidades de nuevo
Hey love your style, really great
Hoping to see your comics in english soon, but even now without understanding a word, they look great
Bachan flippin’ the script once again! Mad props!
Simply awesome!! This could be said from the start: you’re great Bachan!!! Yeah, some of your readers studied English.
We love your style and know you’re going to be a world-known creator of webcomics.
Jijiji… and Maritza and Algeya have a point there, is not only a matter of ideas’ translation, is about sense and local meanings, but they, the new lectors, would have a good chance to meet our culture from the very inside. ^^
I’m not as good as I once be at English, so I’m apologizing in advance. Congrats to Maritza and you for the work!
Yo llevo siguiendo tu trabaja hacealgun tiempo.
Hi Bachan!
First, I love your artwork! Great choice of colors, it is amazing! I read from PVPOnline that you’re a guy, but “Bachan” in Japanese means “grandma”. So your name makes me visualize my 90 year old grandmother doing webcomics!
Kadigan: Yes, I know. It was a funny coincidence. My ‘real’ name is Sebastian, and I was named that in honor of Johann Sebastian Bach, whom my dad really admires. He made up the nickname ‘Bachan’ from Bach. Years later I found out the unfortunate meaning in Japanese, Heh.
I also know it’s a relatively common name in India.
On the language thing, it seems there’s a consensus. It’s going to be both. I’ll start with the translating this weekend.
Again, thanks to all for visiting, and I really appreciate the kind words.
¡Estupenda escalonada Bachan!
Good Things
De nada, rulas!
Idefix is truly an international star.
